Sylvia Gugler was born in Bamberg and began to ride during her childhood at the local Gut Ising riding stables, at the time run by her father Konstantin Magalow, who himself had won many national prizes.

In 1999, she completed her training as a hotel manageress, and worked for another year in the family hotel.

In 2000-2002, Sylvia Gugler completed her rider apprenticeship with Kurt Gravemeier. She then worked until 2005 in sales, as well as in the management of the Hotel Gut Ising.

In 2006, she passed ​her Pferdewirtschaftsmeister (accredited master of horse management) examination. In March 2006, she began working with Dietmar Gugler, whom she married in 2009, at the stud in Pfungstadt.

Sylvia Gugler is a successful international showjumper for the United States. In dressage, too, she has made a name for herself.
